European Association Of Music Therapy Students

generell information

For several years there has been a very active group of young Music Therapy students from several European countries, who meet twice a year at one of the universities to share their experiences and to develop their skills in workshops. Out of this close group the EAMTS has formed itself in April 2002.

Our Mission
Closing the gap between being a student and becoming a professional

Our aims are to provide extensive communication possibilities and international co-operation between Music Therapy Students and Universities, Professional Music Therapists and other professional organizations. We feel that students would benefit from a forum for exchange and communication on an international level, which opens opportunities for discussion, projects, international work and internship placements all over Europe. We believe that by uniting as European students, international co-operation can be enhanced and awareness of Music Therapy will increase. Thus, more will be achieved in the field of Music Therapy.

Our Aims

  • to provide an extensive communication network

  • organization and information about events, symposia, congresses etc

  • organization of student symposia

  • developing projects

  • facilitating student-involvement in research projects

  • mediating international placements and projects

  • financial support for student participation at congresses

  • increasing  international awareness of Music Therapy

Our Four Levels of Communication

Our organization is set up with four levels of communication:

Students
At our twice-yearly meetings, students share experiences and ideas, meet students from different backgrounds and establish valuable contacts.

Schools
Opportunities for students to exchange semesters or modules with other colleges are still scarce. Although not a priority at present, we hope to support  international exchanges in the future.

Professional Music Therapists
We are helping professionals to involve students in research, as well as  giving students broader scope for thesis or final research projects. As well as mediating international placements, we open opportunities for students to speak at professional conferences.

Other Professionals or Organizations
We relate with non-Music Therapy organizations with common goals and an interest in co-operation. Setting up student projects will improve the community awareness of Music Therapy.
